All I want to do is finish a 50-miler. This guy just ends up shattering that dream repeatedly and leaving me in complete awe.
Mr. UltraPedestrian, Jason ‘Ras’ Vaughan, recently completed a triple R2R2R. In case you’re wondering what R2R2R means, you run/jog/walk/hike/crawl from the one rim of the Grand Canyon, trek through the bottom part of the canyon, pop out on the other rim, and traverse back to your starting point. If you start on the Kaibab Trail and run south to north to south, you’ve covered 42 miles in a single rim-to-rim-to-rim jaunt. Imagine covering that distance three times completely unsupported and not accessing any caches or supplies along the way. This is what Ras did, and here’s his story. Here’s an extended interview in Trail Runner Mag conducted by Tim Mathis of A Little Runny.
